Afro Groove – Singing and Movement
Immerse yourself in the rhythms and vibrant spirit of Southeast Africa. Together with Claudia Masika, you will explore traditional African songs featuring harmonies and gospel influences. You'll sing in Swahili, Luo, Giriama, Zulu, and Buganda, discovering how voices, rhythms, and movement come together.
The songs are accompanied with mouth percussion, clapping rhythms, and the calabash. Vocal parts are taught by call-and-response in multiple harmonies—no sheet music needed. Rhythm and movement develop alongside the singing, making the music a fully immersive experience.
The focus is not on perfection but on the joy of making music together. Every voice is welcome, and each participant finds their place according to their abilities.
